Announcing a weekly Stitch Lounge on Wednesday nites. Bring what you want to work on and have the company of fellow stitchers and creatives-at-heart (and hand…) to learn from and to make new friends. Beadweaving: Beginning Peyote Stitch (B)

Learn one of the most useful and versatile stitches in Beadweaving.  We will look at many examples of peyote work, cover the basics of getting started and many other tips and tricks. Learn how to read a peyote bead chart. You will make samples of flat and tubular peyote stitches and go home with a good idea of how these stitches are done for further practice on your own.

Tricia has been creating new clothes from old clothes in creative ways. Learn what makes a garment wearable or not wearable, then the design options of altering a garment.  Get help with, “Where do I start?” Learn what Tricia calls “mindmapping” and other creative inspirations. www.hay-lo.com.

Learn basic beading stitches while also creating a spirit doll for yourself or someone as a gift.

  Old Duds…New Sparkle! Embellishing with Beads (B, SD)    
 

With Lorie Lowenthal,   2 sessions
Learn how to add some pizzaz to your denim jacket, an old shirt or maybe a simple tote with beads, sequins and other surface embellishments. Bring a piece of clothing or accessory to work on; the kit will include everything else you’ll need. This class will teach you bead embroidery techniques and guide you through how to liven up your clothes and turn heads.

Start to Knit (K)

with Judy Pearce, one session
Learn the knit stitch and begin to ponder the possibilities with 2 sticks and a ball of yarn. Students will learn to cast on and knit. After mastering this skill, they will be ready to take on simple projects such as scarves and bags.

Modular with Mitered Squares (K)

with Judy Pearce, one session
Knit a miter and explore the possibilities of creating accessories and
garments by  building square upon square. Students will make 1-4 squares
using the garter stitch. Project ideas will be presented and a resource list
of shops in the area where supplies can be obtained for larger scale projects.
Student must be able to cast on and knit.

Twists & Turns of Cable Knitting (K)

Cable Sweaters have become all the rage in ready-
to-wear- and you will be amazed at how easy it is to knit them.  In 
this introduction to cable knitting, you will learn how to read  charts,
and turn cables- with or without using a cable needle.  To 
practice this new technique you will start a hat in class.  
Prerequisite: you must be able to cast on, knit and purl.

Felted Purses (K)

Show off your creative fiber-funky personality by carrying your new felted purse around with you. Focusing from a beginner point of view, you will learn the start to finish of a small project…choosing yarn, circular knitting, and how to felt, including fixing mistakes, resulting in a cute little designer accessory for the artist in you.

Beginning Knitting  (K)

Learn what it means to cast on, knit, bind off, read a label, wind a ball while also making a neat dishrag or a cute little bunny (must see sample!) to serve as your reward for being so smart to take this class! Intended for the first time exploration of what the buzz of knitting is all about. Second class, review the first class, purl, decreasing stitches in 2 ways, read a simple pattern, pick a project for your next surprising success.

Simple First Lace Knitting (K)

Focusing from a beginner point of view, make a neck wrap or gaiter by learning circular knitting and a  simple lace pattern, to add to your skill base. Tired of scarves? Try a fashion neck wrap instead with your hand made fiber touch.

Fingerless Gloves (K)

Gain a hip fashion look while also gradually learning new knitting skills. Learn circular knitting, cables, lace, measuring and fitting a garment, and finishing techniques. Sample at TACtile, fun to wear layered with other fiber gloves.

Colorful fibers, used for surface and texture designs are the hottest trend in wearable art and home decorating accessories. This class will focus on building a note book of various techniques. You will see examples of exciting ways the techniques can be used!

Crochet Skills Refresher (K)

 

With Angelina Kastroll, one session
Already know how to crochet but need help honing (or remembering) your skills? Angelina to the rescue! We will cover how to read a pattern, the importance of gauge swatches, hook selection and material, fiber selection and substitution, and basic pattern modification. Please note: We will not be creating a specific project in this workshop; instead, we will be honing skills. Bring your favorite hook, a pattern you have been working with, and a skein of yarn. These materials will be available for you to borrow during the workshop.

If you have never picked up a hook before, now is the time. We will cover
everything you need to know to get started: fiber and hook selection, tools
needed, basic stitches, and simple edgings. By the end of class, you will

Intermediate Crochet (K)

If you have some basic skills, but would like to build on
your skills, here is your opportunity. We will cover increases, decreases,
working in rounds, color changes, reading a pattern, and embellishments.
By the end of class, you will have the beginnings of an earflap hat - the
perfect thing to keep your noggin warm this winter. Try a nice way to spend a Friday nite in good company and relaxing after a long week.

Design Elements (T)

Design is important to all art as this is how the work is defined and
interpreted. This class will discuss design elements and design features
specific to fiber artists. All levels of skill and fiber interest are invited to learn,
review, and grow with gently guided experimentations in an encouraging
and supportive environment. Have fun!

Color Blending with Fiber and Fabric (T)

 

with Jennifer Riefenberg, one session
The painter blends colors with paint to create the subtle hues so effective to
a successful color scheme. The fiber artist has the same goal, but works in a
medium that does not blend as does paint.  Color studies using thread/fiber
are presented with simple exercises. All skill levels are invited and encouraged
to attend as this class is about experimenting, creativity, and growth as an artist.

Chenille Scarves (S)

Using Rayon Batik, learn to cut, stack, stitch and slash strips to make a double-sided long scarf with the soft lush velvety rows of chenille. Learn how to achieve the “bloom” and witness all the beautiful colors and combinations from Ann’s examples.

Sewing Studio (S, H)

 

with Jackie Scott, experienced professional designer and costumer for the DCPA.
Bring your own project for help from a fabulous professional. Jackie has wonderful design ideas and the skills to go with them. Learn by osmosis from fellow studio-mate projects and have a blast sewing together!

Intermediate Sewing Studio (S)

 

Studio sewing that is specifically geared for more difficult projects to advance your skills in fashion garment sewing. Students must have minimum 1 year sewing experience.

we move into this new age and understand energy work, we find it is not just
about  what we see, it is as much about how it makes us feel. For your clients
or for yourself, this new understanding of “clothing the spirit” is a wonderful tool
to help you create more successful pieces.

The Beginning Quilting Class teaches students the basics of piecing a quilt top. We will be learning strip piecing methods. Students will create a quilt top using the Log Cabin pattern.You will have the option of creating a lap quilt or a wall hanging.

Kids Sewing Club (S)

Sewing and kids... great extracurricular acitivity! Sewing supports every academic area your child has in school . Children spend enormous amounts of time in front of a screen with 'virtual' results. Time spent in front of a sewing machine results in a tangible useable items. Because they create each item from start to finish, they gain pride and self expression from their efforts. Kids Sewing Club will provide a consistent & positive environment for kids to explore the creativity, the fun, and the challenge found in the world of textile arts. See our fun project samples at TACtile…purses, a pillow case and little zip pouches….Ruth loves teaching kids and they love her.
