Our History by founder Dianne Denholm
The idea of TACtile was born in early 2006 when I was actively seeking to continue the cherished 20 year community of amazing inspiration I experienced at D'Leas Fabric & Button Studio, which I had recently closed in Cherry Creek North, Denver. Key mentors in pursuing the dream were Laura Murray (textile artist who in 2003, spoke highly of the TextileCenter in Minneapolis,) Carolyn Fineran (Tapestry Cherry Creek store owner, international textile & jewelry collector, who traveled with me to Minneapolis) and Diane Matt (D’Leas customer, non-profit executive director, and personal friend.) A research trip to the TextileCenter in May 2006 resulted in further mentoring from Margaret Miller, Executive Director, who immediately answered my multiple "Sister City" email questions. Research continued for another year.
Santa Fe fiber artist, Rebecca Bluestone's closing remarks at the 2004 Handweavers' Guild of America Convergence in Denver 2004, helped a lot, too. She encouraged non-traditional decision making by accessing your unconscious creativity, which requires "bucking the system" in many ways, no easy task. I took her words to heart and saw my eventual destination of creating a non-profit arts center, focused on sewing, textiles, fiber and fashion arts, begin to unfold. to read more
