Rabari 2010
RABARI EMBROIDERY and NARRATIVE APPLIQUE
with Judy Frater and Rabari artisans
Part of the charm of the experience is spending time with these robust, humorous, very creative people. Thus, you learn that a style is far more than stitches!
You will learn all the techniques PLUS! the motifs, patterns and aesthetics that make Rabari embroidery unique in the world of stitchery. An introductory lecture, a reading list and samples of traditional patterns are included in the workshop. You will learn techniques of appliqué and the delightful details of identifying and solving design problems in a narrative application of the medium. For the narrative appliqué artist, participants can make a small wall hanging. For the Rabari artist, they could make a small bag, a toran, or a cushion cover.
This is a rare opportunity since these women are visiting Colorado as part of an exclusive US visit to Santa Fe and for events at the CSU Avenir museum. Don't miss this wonderful experience!
